A BIT ABOUT GARETH

Gareth, one of the directors of Case Café, brings a wealth of experience across mental health project management, youth work, and the catering industry. With a strong background in developing and leading mental health initiatives, Gareth has managed community based projects that promote wellbeing and provide early intervention support for young people. His years in youth work have given him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by young individuals, particularly around mental health and social inclusion. Alongside his professional expertise, Gareth’s fun, energetic, and down-to-earth character helps create a positive and welcoming atmosphere wherever he goes. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life brings warmth and humour to the Case Café team, making the space not only purposeful but also genuinely enjoyable for staff, volunteers, and visitors alike.

As a director of Case Café, Gareth takes an active role in both the day-to-day running and long-term direction of the business. He supports staff and volunteers with training and wellbeing, using his background in youth work and mental health to build a positive, inclusive environment. Gareth also develops community projects and partnerships that align with the café’s social impact goals. Always hands-on and full of energy, he brings humour and warmth to the team and customers alike

As an In-Work Support Manager, Gareth was responsible for managing and supporting staff to ensure projects ran smoothly and targets were achieved. He provided practical guidance and ongoing encouragement to help team members develop their skills and confidence in the workplace. Gareth monitored progress, identified challenges early, and offered tailored support to maintain both productivity and wellbeing

Gareth also ran his own café and coffee vans, combining his passion for great coffee with his commitment to community engagement. He managed all aspects of the business, from operations and customer service to staff training and event coordination. His hands-on approach and friendly personality helped build a loyal customer base and a strong local reputation.

Gareth worked for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council for over seven years, where he held key roles supporting children, young people, and families. As the MIA/TAF Co-ordinator, he managed the Welsh Government’s Families First “Team Around the Family” programme, overseeing staff and ensuring effective community engagement and safeguarding practices. Prior to this, as the Emotional Mental Health Co-ordinator, Gareth developed and delivered support groups and training to help young people improve their emotional wellbeing. His work demonstrated strong leadership, project management, and a deep commitment to improving mental health and community outcomes.
